Feb. 28, 2011: Taking Note

P3391

I find myself using the camera on my phone more and more as a way to take notes. I snap pictures of addresses, websites, songs, and any number of things I want to be able to remember. Here's a good example. When I was nimble minded (20 years ago) I knew this chart by heart. Today, I don't waste the few brain cells left that keep me breathing and from drooling on such trivial things when I have a camera in my pocket.

Feb. 26, 2011: Arts and History

P3381

Today we ventured out to do a little shopping. We rambled around a few places. As we were heading home, Bill reminded me that this weekend is the last for the "Picasso on Paper" exhibit at the Flint Institute of Art. We went over to check it out. Although neither of us would call ourselves fans of Picasso's work, we are both glad that we went. While in the area, we stopped by the Sloan Museum. I enjoyed walking through learning about Flint's great history.

Poor Al

P3376

We're watching Deadwood marathon style. After work, we generally get in 2-3 episodes. It really makes me regret not stopping by when I was traipsing across South Dakota. In one of the episodes we watched tonight our protagonist, Al had a tough day. The episode ends with this look from him, and truly it says everything.

Carpet Sample

P3370

Bill has been working on the basement lately. We've decided that Grandpa Dring's basement bedroom would make a sunny office retreat for me. Weird, I know that a basement room offers the best sunlight in the house. It really does though; it has east and south facing windows. The painting is nearly done, so we headed out to choose carpet. We started looking at remnants at Skaff, but chose this berber from Home Depot. I don't know, something about the limited choices of remnants didn't meet my needs as a purchaser. I suppose the other stuff couldn't compete price-wise with Home Depot. This carpet will actually be the first time I have ever purchased flooring. They'll be here Monday to measure and will install shortly thereafter. Time to shop for office furniture!

Cornbread brisket

P3352

Bill and I were talking to Momma and Daddy this morning. Bill and Daddy started talking about the ever increasing price of silver then moved on to the Green Egg. Bill made a brisket yesterday. Dad asked what part of the cow it comes from then said he saw a cornbread brisket at the store. I think I'll pick some up for St. Paddy's Day.

Feb. 18, 2011: Amazed by Amazon, again

P3342

I swear, Amazon Prime has paid for itself time and time again. Yesterday afternoon, I decided that I needed French onion soup crocks. I ordered 3 and was surprised to see that 2 day shipping would get them to me Saturday. I considered doing one day shipping because I was thinking of making soup tonight. Next day shipping is $3.99 per item so I decided to just be patient. UPS delivered them by 10am today. Seriously. I ordered these at 4pm and had them the next morning by 10!
